DTEC History

Built in 2000, the Dennis Technical Education Center has served thousands of students. These students have been provided an opportunity to pursue post-secondary education/training, as well as gaining the skills that may lead directly to employment. This state-of-the-art, nationally-recognized facility offers industry training in a variety of professional/technical fields such as automotive technology, graphic design, health professions, heavy-duty diesel, information technology, and residential construction, to name a few.
In 2016, Idaho officially changed the term “Professional-Technical Education” to Career and Technical Education (CTE). This shift aligned Idaho with national initiatives and better reflected the mission of preparing students for diverse career pathways. The change also strengthened visibility and partnerships for CTE at both the state and national levels.
Building on this momentum, in 2017 our school rebranded as DTEC (Dennis Technical Education Center).
To expand opportunities, the DTEC Annex opened during the 2018–2019 school year, centralizing programs and offering more courses for Boise School District students. Before this expansion, health professions programs were located at Fort Boise, Zoology/Ecology was taught in a portable classroom, and IT programs were housed at Frank Church High School. The Annex allowed these programs to come together under one roof, creating a stronger, more collaborative learning environment for students.
